I just got word that Mr. Boyle went home to God this past May. Although I have not kept up with him over the years, I am saddened by the loss of his gift to the world. I am now a Catholic priest, but in 8th grade at Sousa (1978) Mr. Boyle taught me Geometry. He was the best teacher I had all throughout school, K-12. And I don't just mean he was the most fun. I am not at all inclined mathematically, but that year I scored a 98 percent on the Geometry Regents exam (bragging on him, not myself). He truly had a gift: a love for his subject matter matched only by his dedication to his students -- in my profession we call that a vocation, or a "calling." I am grateful I was able to benefit from Mr. Boyle's answering God's call to be a teacher. I'll never forget "Gee, I'm A Tree"... nor will I ever forget Richard Boyle. May his soul rest in peace.
