Mr. Boyle’s Square Root Beer

If you read the Donate page closely, you’ll see that the highest giving level includes receiving ‘an original label from Mr. Boyle’s Square Root Beer’. Here are some labels for our mythical (so far) beverage. We made this award a reality. Maybe we can turn this myth into reality someday, too.

Click here to go to our Label page to view the designs.

The “Math Class” Song

Math Class
by  Barbara Gary and Julie Seeger
Created and performed in 9th Grade, 1970/71

[sung to the tune of “Blue Moon”]

Math class, I used to feel so alone
Without a formula to start,
I could not solve one unknown

Mr. Boyle, you knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
A formula I really could care for

Suddenly there appeared before me: Y=mx+b
I heard somebody whisper, “Use it when in doubt”
And when i tried, the answer equaled 3!

Keeping Up My Notebook

Keeping Up My Notebook for Mr. Boyle.

I think that bic banana pens were invented for the purpose of getting extra credit in Mr. Boyle's class.

Being the average student that I was, I relied on my clear and colorful notebook at the end of the term to get me over the top and do "well" in Mr. Boyle's class.

My handwriting improved as a result of a math class.

I also had the pleasure of having Mr. Boyle for homeroom.  This was a great treat and a wonderful place to start your jr. high day.

One I’ll Never Forget

I just got word that Mr. Boyle went home to God this past May.  Although I have not kept up with him over the years, I am saddened by the loss of his gift to the world.  I am now a Catholic priest, but in 8th grade at Sousa (1978) Mr. Boyle taught me Geometry.  He was the best teacher I had all throughout school, K-12.  And I don't just mean he was the most fun.  I am not at all inclined mathematically, but that year I scored a 98 percent on the Geometry Regents exam (bragging on him, not

My Uncle Dick Boyle

To me he will always be my Uncle "Duck".

I remember sitting out in front of his camp on the St Lawrence, watching him read these horrible math textbooks.  I once asked him why he read them if he already knew it all - which of course he always seemed to.  He smiled and said that he had to keep learning.  I guess this website shows that it paid off.

Many thanks,
Matthew Boyle
